Rauw Alejandro

Despacito from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi The song, as well as Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. The single Despacito, which combines reggaeton with pop music was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also increased interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs mostly of Spanish and the year 2016 featured four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. In the following months, several artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars such as Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards popular music by 2020. A newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms and other genres into his songs.
